Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, highly independent Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to support the Department of Medicine's Infectious Disease research team in Baltimore, MD.

This position will provide interim coverage and support the coordination and execution of pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials, NIH-funded studies, and investigator-initiated research focused on the treatment and progression of infectious diseases, including HIV, hepatitis, COVID-19, and other related conditions.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will primarily support hepatitis-focused research studies, including HBV, HIV, and HDV, with responsibilities spanning participant recruitment, clinical trial operations, regulatory compliance, study documentation, and communication with research stakeholders.

This role requires a seasoned Clinical Research Coordinator who can hit the ground running from day one with minimal training, guidance, or supervision.

The ideal candidate must be highly self-sufficient, proactive, and confident managing clinical research studies independently. Due to the immediate needs of the research team, this position is best suited for someone with strong hands-on clinical research experience who can quickly step into existing workflows, take ownership of responsibilities, and keep studies moving forward without extensive onboarding or oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently coordinate daily clinical research activities to ensure compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and institutional guidelines.
  • Manage participant recruitment, screening, informed consent, scheduling, and ongoing study communication.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between study participants, Principal Investigators, sponsors, Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and other research stakeholders.
  • Independently manage regulatory activities, including IRB submissions, protocol amendments, continuing reviews, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate study documentation, research records, and data entry to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Support clinical trial operations, including study initiation visits, multisite coordination, and ongoing study management.
  • Assist with operational budget tracking and study-related administrative activities.
  • Coordinate infusion- and injection-based study workflows and medication administration processes, as experience and qualifications permit.
  • Proactively identify and resolve study-related challenges while managing competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Quickly become familiar with existing study protocols and workflows to ensure continuity of ongoing research activities.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional policies, federal research regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator or in a related clinical research position.
  • Strong hands-on experience independently managing clinical research studies and day-to-day trial operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to step into an established research environment and contribute immediately with minimal training or oversight.
  • Experience supporting human subjects research, participant recruitment, informed consent, and clinical trial coordination.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, IRB submissions, protocol amendments, and research documentation.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center or multisite clinical research environment.
  • Ability to independently prioritize responsibilities, troubleshoot challenges, and manage multiple complex research workflows.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate research documentation.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive professional who requires minimal direction to successfully execute responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting infectious disease research, including HIV, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis D (HDV), gastroenterology, or hepatology studies.
  • Experience coordinating pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials, NIH-funded studies, or investigator-initiated research.
  • Familiarity with infusion- or injection-based clinical trials and medication administration workflows.
  • Experience supporting complex clinical research studies involving multiple investigators, sponsors, or research sites.
